Total Solar Boot Camp

The goal of this five-day total ‘immersion’ training program is to provide students with the latest information, technology and experience necessary to prepare them for immediate entry into the green job market. This Boot Camp utilizes a combination of classroom-style interactions such as (guest) lectures, discussions, table top exercises and hands-on lab activities which are designed to reinforce the subject matter presented in a simulated construction setting. Lecturers and lab instructors are (licensed) contractors and/or technical experts in their respective professions. Our training goals are: (1) to effectively communicate knowledge and information; (2) teach/evaluate students’ basic solar installation skills; and (3) emphasize safe work practices and teamwork.
Upon passing the final exam, students will receive an “Entry Level Certificate of Solar Training” issued by FRESH Training Concepts. (Note: Students will also be prepared to take the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners [NABCEP], “Certificate of Entry Level Knowledge” exam offered by various third party providers throughout California (e.g. Solar Training Institute)). Boot camp graduates may also be offered temporary employment status until full-time employment opportunities become available.
Where:
The Total Solar Boot Camp is held in Clearlake, California at the FRESH Energy Training Center located at 14106 Olympic Drive. This newly renovated facility produces more energy than it consumes and includes two photovoltaic (PV) systems, a passive solar hot water system installed on the (cool) roof and two electric vehicle charging stations. An EPA/Energy Star certification is pending for this highly-efficient building.
